Sculptra Aesthetic is an FDA-approved injectable that permits collagen regeneration gradually. As a result, collagen stimulation aids to restore facial volume and fullness to help alleviate fine lines and wrinkles that are a part of the aging process. Unlike fillers, including Juvederm and Restylane that are composed of hyaluronic acid fillers, Sculptra is composed of a collagen stimulator poly-L-lactic acid. Rather than restore fullness by pushing up the dermis space between fine lines, poly-L-lactic acid is absorbed by epithelial cells to help rebuild collagen over a series of treatments.
Which areas does Sculptra treat? -
Sculptra is optimal for correcting deep creases/wrinkles and folds in the face that occur over time. Areas treated include:
Nasolabial folds
Marionette lines
Chin creases
How many sessions are recommended? – Typically, a series of three treatments over a few months may be needed. However, the number of injections each session will vary depending on the severity of your skin folds, wrinkles, and creases. Your specialist will go over a custom treatment plan to determine the number of sessions that may be needed.
How soon will I see results? – Sculptra is formulated to gradually stimulate collagen formation over a course of three months. Immediately post-treatment you may not see noticeable results. It takes a few months for collagen regeneration to take into effect as the body absorbs the product and utilizes it for collagen remodeling. On average, results last for up to two years with three sessions spanned over a course of a few months.
Is there downtime? – There is no down time after being treated with Sculptra. We do not recommend heavy exercise 24 hours post treatment.
Pre + Post Care
Before Treatment
Avoid use of anti-inflammatory drugs including aspirin, motrin, advil, and ibuprofen for two weeks prior to treatment as to minimize the potential for bruising, unless medications involved are prescribed for the treatment of an existing medical condition.
Do not drink alcoholic beverages 24 hours before or after your treatment to avoid excessive bruising
You may take Arnica tablets or tea 2-3 days prior to your injection to reduce the risk of bruising
Stop the use of glycolic, alpha or beta hydroxyl acids, retinols, retin-A or other similar products 7 days prior to treatment
After Treatment
You may use Tylenol if you experience any mild tenderness or discomfort
Avoid excessive sun exposure and always use SPF 30+
Avoid heavy exercise for 24 hours
Avoid laser or skin tightening treatments 2-3 weeks
