The active ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid that is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired goal.
What should I expect? - After your assessment our trained specialists will administer multiple small injections under your chin, and the injection process takes about 15-20 minutes. The exact number of injections will depend on the amount of fat you have under your chin and your desired goal.
When will I see results? – The number of treatment varies from patient to patient and their desired goals. Our trained specialists will help determine how many treatment sessions you may need to achieve your desired goal. Each Kybella treatment session is given 1 month apart, and you should not receive more than 6 treatments.
Pre + Post Care
Before Treatment
During your assessment with one of our specialists make sure to disclose all of your medical conditions, including:
- If you have had or plan to have surgery on your face, neck, or chin.
- Have had cosmetic treatments on your face, neck, or chin.
- Have had or have medical conditions in or near the neck area.
- Have or had trouble swallowing
- Have bleeding problems.
May not be pregnant or nursing.
To decrease the chance of bruising at the injection site, please avoid all blood thinning medications and supplements 1 week prior to your scheduled appointment.
Avoid taking Aspirin, Ibuprofen, or blood thinners.
During the course of your treatments, notify our staff of any changes to your medical history, health status, or personal activities that may be relevant to your treatment.
After Treatment
Kybella can cause serious side effects, including, trouble swallowing and nerve injury in the jaw that can temporarily cause an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness. The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness, and areas of hardness around the treatment area.
To avoid bruising, avoid alcohol consumption 24 hours after scheduled appointment.
Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
Avoid rubbing, massaging, or scrubbing injection site for 24 hours.
